Record budget of 12 billion euros for the SDE + in 2017

26 april 2017

In 2017, the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs announced a record budget of € 12 billion to stimulate renewable energy projects through the SDE + subsidy. In 2015 and 2016, budgets of 3.5 and 9 billion were available for the SDE+ subsidy. Through the SDE +, the Ministry of Economic Affairs stimulates renewable energy growth by providing subsidies for produced renewable energy. Producers receive financial compensation for the renewable energy they generate. The subsidy will be made available for a period of 12 or 15 years, depending on the category. The SDE+ opens in phases. If you wait until the final stage, you can receive the highest subsidy, but you also run the risk that the available budget is no longer sufficient.

The SDE + will be opened in two rounds in 2017, in spring and autumn. The SDE+ round of applications for spring 2017 is closed. The autumn round is expected in September or October 2017. Each round has three phases. The subsidy rises per phase because the base amount increases in each phase. Below, you will find the overview of phase contributions and opening dates.

During the opening of the SDE +, applicants have the opportunity to submit projects in the so-called free category. Entrepreneurs are encouraged to submit projects below the relevant maximum base amount. The lower the base amount, the bigger the chance to receive subsidy. Also included is the moment that an energy project is registered. The sooner you apply within the group of applicants with the same base amount, the bigger the chance you get subsidy.

In the table below you can find the base amounts of the opening in the spring 2017. It is expected that these amounts remain unchanged in the upcoming opening of the SDE+ in September or October.
